¡Urban Jungle Bloggers: Plants & Words!

How happy I am, every time I can make a new Urban Jungle Bloggers blog! Always good for some new plants at home and lots of Green Inspiration.

This time Plants & Words is the theme. I was looking over for a green inspiration quote, when I something reminded me to Marilyn Monroe's song: not diamonds, but Plants are a Girls best Friend! I never have enough of them and discover new friends all the time. So I bought myself this beautiful Kalanchoë with its precious bells (from which I never knew it was a Kalangoë family member), a purple, green and white leafed Tradescantia and a Nepenthes.

Lucky me, I could use theses beautiful ceramic drops by NA Design with prints of cacti and birds. I added them at a wooden wall hanger and together with my Dad's vintage blackboard the Plant & Words scene is complete.

I hope the Kanagoë bells will bloom soon, just like the beautiful cacti at the NA Design drops.

Ik word altijd weer blij als ik een nieuw Urban Jungle Bloggers blog mag maken! Altijd goed voor wat nieuwe planten in huis en heel veel groene inspiratie. Deze keer is Plants & Words het thema. Ik was op zoek naar een groene inspiratie quote, toen ik aan het liedje van Marilyn Monroe moest denken: Niet diamanten, maar Plants are a Girls best Friend! Ik krijg nooit genoeg van ze en ontdek telkens weer nieuwe soorten. Dus ik kocht deze mooie Kalangoë met zijn fragiele bellen (nooit geweten dat deze leukerd ook tot de Kalangoë familie hoort), een Tradescentia met paarse, wit en groen gestreept blad en een Nepenthes. Geluksvogel die ik ben, ik mocht deze mooie hangers van keramiek van NA Design gebruiken voor deze shoot. De hangers hebben prachtige prints van cactussen en vogels. Ik hing ze aan een houten muurhanger en in combinatie met een oude fuik en mijn vaders vintage schoolbord, mijn Plants & Words setting is compleet! Hopelijk gaan de Kalangoë bellen snel bloemen, net zo als de mooie cactusbloemen op de NA Design hangers.

We are enjoying a real Dutch Summer: Sunny Summerdays mixed with days of Tropical rain showers. 

What kind of weather is outside, inside its a Tropicool Urban Jungle with all kind of plants.

Though green plants like the Palm, Philopdendron, Banana plant and Allocasia are my favourites, more and more some tropical coloured plants with beautiful flowers, like the pink Bromelia and the Erythroneura with its little purple flowers, enter my house. They remind me of my travels to the South American jungle, which has been years ago. The green and pink jungle print at the wall make me think of the colours of the jungle, where a lot of beautiful coloured birds can be discovered on their way.

So I really like this Summer Urban Jungle Bloggers theme: Tropicool! Mixed with some rattan, my blooming Eucomis ( Pineapple Lily) and a copper bird I enjoy a tropical holiday at my home!

We kunnen dit jaar weer van een echte Nederlandse zomer genieten: hete zonnige dagen worden afgewisseld met dagen waarop de ene na de andere tropische regenbui valt. Maar wat voor weer het buiten ook is, hier in huis is het altijd een Tropische jungle, met allerlei verschillende planten. Alhoewel groene planten zoals de Palm, Philodendron, Bananenplant en Alocasia mijn favoriet zijn, komen er steeds meer tropische gekleurde planten met prachtige bloemen, zoals de roze Bromelia en de Erythroneura met zijn kleine paarse bloemetjes, in mijn huis bij. Ze herinneren me aan mijn reizen in de jungle van Zuid Amerika, al weer lang geleden. De groene en roze tinten op het Jungle wanddoek aan de muur, doen me denken aan de kleuren van de jungle waar veel mooi gekleurde vogels te spotten zijn. Dus ik ben heel erg blij met het zomer thema van de UrbanJungle Bloggers: Tropicool! Met wat rieten krukjes, de net bloeiende Eucomis (ananas lelie) en een koperen vogel, kan ik van mijn tropische vakantie thuis genieten!

New month, New beginnings!

That's what the Urban Jungle Bloggers choose for the styling challenge for the Spring season.

The new plant beginning I like best, are the green leaves on my grape. Every year I prune it to the base, and every year it surprises me when green leaves appear. Since the wall with the grape is next to my garden doors, it means a green view. Some knotted Petunia flowers are waiting to sprout, and I put them at the grapevine. Feels like spring has begun!

Nieuwe maand, Nieuw begin! Dat is het thema dat Urban Jungle Bloggers kozen voor de Lente styling. Het beste nieuwe groene begin, zijn voor mij nieuwe bladeren aan mijn druif. Ieder jaar snoei ik alle takken helemaal terug tot aan de stam en ieder jaar ben ik weer weer verrast als de druif weer flink begint te groeien. Omdat de muur met de druif precies naast mijn tuindeuren is, betekent het dat ik weer een groen uitzicht heb. Een paar geknakte Petunia bloemen wachten aan de druivenranken op nieuwe wortels. Het voelt alsof de lente nu echt begonnen is!

Dark December days can be cheered up with some Plants & Light!

In this time of the year my home is filled with lights and green so I was very happy that this months Urban Jungle Bloggers theme is Plants & Light!

The brightest room of my home is my bedroom. That's why the olive tree is doing great, even in winter days. For December I decorate my home with stars, even in my bedroom. Mixed with the starry succulents, some candles and a string of Christmas lights, they light up the dark December days.

Donkere December dagen kunnen wel wat Plants & Light gebruiken! In deze tijd van het jaar, staat mijn huis vol lichtjes en groen, dus het UrbanJungle Bloggers thema: Plants & Light, past daar helemaal bij! De lichtste kamer in mijn huis is mijn slaapkamer. Daardoor doet mijn olijfboompje het prima, zelfs in de winter. In december versier ik mijn hele huis met sterren, tot in de slaapkamer toe. Gecombineerd met de stervormige vetplantjes, wat kandelaars en een snoer kerstlichtjes, worden donkere December dagen weer licht!

It's the green time of the month again. Another Urban Jungle Bloggers post with the inspiring theme: Creative Plant Pots!

Of course it would be easy to visit one of my favourite stores and buy some new plant pots, but this time of the year, when I like to plant some bulbs and green moss, I use some ceramic and glass cups and mugs and some small lantern as plant pots.

I bought the ceramic mugs and the glass leather strapped latern last year at Søstrene Grene. You can still buy the mugs there and other wise, look a likes can be found in the thrift stores. The glass mug is by Bodum. Love the combination of the pure bulbs and the pastel greens of the succulents. Just some candles and christmas lights and my Christmas greens are ready this year...

Het is weer de tijd voor groen deze maand. Een nieuwe Urban Jungle Bloggers post, met het inspirerende thema: Creative Plant Pots! Natuurlijk kan ik snel naar een van mijn favoriete winkels gaan om wat nieuwe potten uit te zoeken, maar deze tijd van het jaar waarin ik het leuk vind om mos potjes en bloembollen in huis te hebben, gebruik ik een aantal koffiemokjes van glas en keramiek en wat kleine waxinelicht houders als plantenpotten. Vorig jaar kocht ik de keramieken mokjes en de waxinelicht houder met het leren bandje bij Søstrene Grene. De mokjes zijn daar nog steeds te koop en anders kun je look a likes bij de Kringloop vinden. Het glazen kopje is van Bodum. Wat vind ik deze combinatie van groene vetplantjes en ruwe bloembollen mooi. Alleen nog wat kaarsen en kerstlichtjes erb8ij en mijn groene Kerstgroen is klaar...

¡Urban Jungle Bloggers: Plant Still Life “Desert”!

I am always looking forward to make my Urban Jungle Bloggers post. It always means buying some new plants and some re-styling at home. But this month it took me a while untill I was inspired by this months theme Plant Still Life "Desert". The fist thing which came to my mind when I read about this the a were cacti, the only plants I really don't like...

Luckily I discovered this beautiful Mikado plant and a succulent at Urban Jungle heaven: Groene Vingers Delft. But still the inspiration for the still life wouldn't come.. Funny if you know that my home is painted in sandy white tones.

Creativity means looking at things in a different way and sometimes it's just before your eyes. When I saw Floortje Dessing travelling to Syria to visit Palmyra, suddenly my inspiration was found.

On my travels to Morocco, Jordan and Syria, I visited some beautiful deserts. I also went to Palmyra, which is in the middle of the dessert and bought there my beautiful hand carved coffee can. It's always in my kitchen and reminds me of the hospitality and lots of dates which I saw there. So I added some Morrocan souvenirs and even found my hand braided camel, which I bought somewhere en route through Morocco, and there is my Desert Still Life! This Still Life makes me feeling like traveling to the desert again, so Morocco is on my travel wishlist again.

Iedere maand kijk ik er weer naar uit om mijn Urban Jungle Bloggers post te maken. Dat betekent namelijk ieder maand wat nieuwe planten kopen en een stukje van mijn huis restylen. Maar deze maand kostte me het een tijdje voor ik geïnspireerd werd door het thema van deze maand: Plant Still Life "Desert". Het enige dat steeds bij me opkwam als ik aan het thema dacht waren cactussen en als er een plant is waar ik echt helemaal niets mee heb.... Gelukkig vond ik een prachtig Mikado plantje bij Urban Jungle heaven: Groene VingersDelft. Maar nog steeds wilde de inspiratie voor het stil leven maar niet komen... Grappig als je weet dat mij huis geschilderd is in zandwitten. Creativiteit betekent op een aandreef manier ergens naar kijken en soms is die inspiratie recht voor je neus. Toen ik de documentaire van Floortje Dessing naar Syrië zag, begin de inspiratie ineens te borrelen. Op mijn reizen naar Marokko, Jordanië en Syrië, bezocht ik prachtige woestijnen. Net als Floortje was ik in Palmyra, een stad die midden in de woestijn ligt en daar kocht ik min prachtige handversierde koffiekan. De kan staat in mijn keuken en altijd als ik de kan zie, moet ik denken aan de enorme gastvrijheid van de mensen in Palmyra en alle dadels die ik er at. Wat Marokkaanse souvenirs en mijn handgevlochten kameel, die ik ergens onderweg in Marokko kocht, en daar was het Desert Still Life! Als ik dit stilleven zie wil ik weer heel graag een reisje naar de woestijn maken, dus Marokko staat alweer op mijn reis wishlist!
