¡Urban Jungle Bloggers: Plants & Words!

How happy I am, every time I can make a new Urban Jungle Bloggers blog! Always good for some new plants at home and lots of Green Inspiration.

This time Plants & Words is the theme. I was looking over for a green inspiration quote, when I something reminded me to Marilyn Monroe's song: not diamonds, but Plants are a Girls best Friend! I never have enough of them and discover new friends all the time. So I bought myself this beautiful Kalanchoë with its precious bells (from which I never knew it was a Kalangoë family member), a purple, green and white leafed Tradescantia and a Nepenthes.

Lucky me, I could use theses beautiful ceramic drops by NA Design with prints of cacti and birds. I added them at a wooden wall hanger and together with my Dad's vintage blackboard the Plant & Words scene is complete.

I hope the Kanagoë bells will bloom soon, just like the beautiful cacti at the NA Design drops.

Ik word altijd weer blij als ik een nieuw Urban Jungle Bloggers blog mag maken! Altijd goed voor wat nieuwe planten in huis en heel veel groene inspiratie. Deze keer is Plants & Words het thema. Ik was op zoek naar een groene inspiratie quote, toen ik aan het liedje van Marilyn Monroe moest denken: Niet diamanten, maar Plants are a Girls best Friend! Ik krijg nooit genoeg van ze en ontdek telkens weer nieuwe soorten. Dus ik kocht deze mooie Kalangoë met zijn fragiele bellen (nooit geweten dat deze leukerd ook tot de Kalangoë familie hoort), een Tradescentia met paarse, wit en groen gestreept blad en een Nepenthes. Geluksvogel die ik ben, ik mocht deze mooie hangers van keramiek van NA Design gebruiken voor deze shoot. De hangers hebben prachtige prints van cactussen en vogels. Ik hing ze aan een houten muurhanger en in combinatie met een oude fuik en mijn vaders vintage schoolbord, mijn Plants & Words setting is compleet! Hopelijk gaan de Kalangoë bellen snel bloemen, net zo als de mooie cactusbloemen op de NA Design hangers.

De laatste weken had ik een soort energielek, was weken verkouden en had nergens zin in... niet iets waar ik aan gewend ben, omdat ik altijd optimistisch ben en de zon in ieder donker hoekje zie schijnen. Dus toen ik deze quote las, moest ik deze wel delen op ¡Muy Bien!. Met deze quote in mijn hoofd voel ik me meteen stukken beter. Dus mocht je maandag niet zo zonnig verlopen, denk dan aan iets waarvan je moet lachen...

¡AfroDutch PaperStone Tealightholders!

Nu de avonden steeds korter worden, het weer tijd voor gezelligheid en kaarsjes in huis. Kandelaars en tealightholders heb je in alle soorten, maar de mooie katoenen tealightholders van AfroDutch PaperStone zijn een echte must have voor in huis.

AfroDutch PaperStone is een samenwerking tussen De Nederlandse Henriëtte en de Keniaanse Ruth. Henriëtte wilde graag in Nairobi een bedrijfje starten, waar vrouwen dichtbij huis van waardeloos materiaal mooie interieur producten kunnen maken, zonder dat hiervoor grote investeringen nodig zijn. AfroDutch PaperStone zorgt voor het creëren van beauty out of waste en maakt het daarnaast mogelijk dat vrouwen dichtbij huis aan het werk te zijn zodat ze ook voor hun kleine kinderen kunnen zorgen.

Nu een paar jaren later is Ruth de eigenaar van AfroDutch PaperStone, heeft ze haar baan als schoonmaakster ver achter zich gelaten, geeft ze zelf werk aan een aantal vrouwen en verkoopt ze AfroDutch PaperStone producten (vazen, schalen, lampenkappen en sieraden) in Nairobi via fairs en winkels. In Nederland worden de banners, kaarten en tealightholders verkocht.

AfroDutch PaperStone heeft nog geen eigen webshop in Nederland, maar deze webshops en winkels verkopen de mooie producten.

Now that the nights are getting shorter, it's time to make it cosy at home, and light up the candles. There are all kinds of candle- and tealightholders, but the beautiful cottontealightholders by AfroDutch PaperStone are a must have for in your home.

Afro Dutch Paper Stone is a collaboration between the Dutch Henriëtte and Kenyan Ruth. Henriëtte wanted to start a business in Nairobi, where women can make beautiful home interior products, without requiring large investments. AfroDutch PaperStone is about creating beauty out of waste and also makes it possible for women to be at work close to their homes, so they can care for their small children.

A few years later now, Ruth is the owner of AfroDutch PaperStone. She left her job as a cleaning lady left behind, she employs several women herself and sells them AfroDutch PaperStone products (vases, bowls, lampshades and jewelery) in Nairobi through fairs and shops. In the Netherlands, banners, cards and tealightholders are sold.

AfroDutch PaperStone doesn't have a webshop in the Netherlands, but you buy can these beautiful products are sold in these shops and webshops.

Ik ben niet echt een zwart en wit fan, maar dit moodboard met de quote ¡Be uncommon! vind ik heel erg leuk.

Ik merk dat ik het zelf heel leuk vind om net even anders te zijn, op mijn blog, Instagram en in het dagelijks leven. Soms zou ik wel eens 1 stijl willen kiezen, maar ik vind zoveel mooi dat me dat telkens weer niet lukt. Dus ik denk dat ik maar uncommon blijf....

Quotes, Black & White... you see them everywhere...

I am not really a Black & White fan, but I love this moodboard with the quote ¡Be uncommon! I also like to be uncommon, at my blog, my Instagram account and in daily life. Sometimes I wish that I just choose one style, so everybody recognize me, but I like so many differnet things, that it doesn't work for me. So I think I 'll stay uncommon..

¡Guest Blogger: Van het kastje naar de muur by Milou: Styling with postcards and texts!

Het inrichten van je interieur begint natuurlijk met een goede basis; je kiest de meubelstukken, de vloer en de kleuren op de wanden.

Dan komt de aankleding in de vorm van accessoires. Met deze ingrediënten maak je van je huis écht een thuis.

Persoonlijke accessoires onderscheiden je huis en maken je interieur eigen. Een manier om je te onderscheiden en je stijl naar voren te brengen, is het gebruik van teksten in je interieur. Dit zie je de laatste tijd veel en de mogelijkheden zijn dan ook eindeloos. Er zijn diverse webshops van creatievelingen, maar ook in woonwinkels (of zelfs de Xenos) vind je teksten op een leuke manier afgebeeld.

Kies teksten/woorden/letters die bij je passen, in de kleur die jij leuk vind. Persoonlijk kies ik vaak voor de combinatie zwart - wit, omdat dat goed past bij andere accessoires in mijn huis.

Zie hieronder de manier waarop ik kaarten en teksten in ons huis een plekje heb gegeven:

Deze posters komen uit de webshop van Done by myself. Statements die in de zwarte Ikea lijsten een eigen plekje aan de muur hebben.

Deze tekst zat in een notitieblokje van Ikea. Door het een plekje te geven op een, verder kale, muur word je uitgenodigd tot het lezen ervan.

Deze kaart kreeg ik bij een bestelling van Sukha Amsterdam. Sukha staat onder andere bekend om zijn grappige en ontroerende gedichtjes. Erg leuk om te lezen! Deze tovert dan ook regelmatig een glimlach op iemands gezicht.

Dit glazen plaatje met tekst kocht ik bij Eigen in Zwolle.

In plaats van het gebruik van een stukje maskingtape, kun je een vintage typemachine ook gebruiken om een kaartje te laten zien.

'Out with the old, in with the new' is een leuke free printable van Lijns. (Je vind 'm hier!) Het enige wat je nog nodig hebt is een printer.

Ik hoop je geïnspireerd te hebben, om je interieur nog meer eigen te maken door middel van kaarten en teksten! Mogelijkheden genoeg, dus variëren maar.

Of course the styling of your home starts with a good base; You choose the furniture, the floor and the colors for the walls. Then comes the decoration like accessories. With these ingredients, you can make your house truly a home. Accessories give your home a personal touch. One way to distinguish yourself and bring your style at home is the use of texts in your interior. Lately you see them a lot and there are endless possibilities. There are sold at online shops of creative people, but you also in furniture stores (or even the Xenos) funny and inspiring texts are sold. Choose texts / words / letters that fit you, in the color that you like. Personally, I often choose the combination black - white, because it fits well with other accessories in my house. Here you see the cards and texts I used to decorate at my home:

Photo 1: These posters are from the webshop Done by myself. All the quotes in the black Ikea frame have their own spot on the wall.

Photo 2 & Photo 3: This text was found in a notebook I bought at Ikea. By giving them a place at the wall, you are invited to read them.

Photo 4: This card I received with an order of Sukha Amsterdam. Sukha is famous for its funny and touching poems. Must reads! They always put a smile at your face.

Photo 6: Instead of using a piece of masking tape, you can use a vintage typewriter to show a card.

This morning we were surprised by snow. Even in The Hague (allmost 500 meters next to the sea, there was about 20 cm).
