¡AfroDutch PaperStone Tealightholders!

Nu de avonden steeds korter worden, het weer tijd voor gezelligheid en kaarsjes in huis. Kandelaars en tealightholders heb je in alle soorten, maar de mooie katoenen tealightholders van AfroDutch PaperStone zijn een echte must have voor in huis.

AfroDutch PaperStone is een samenwerking tussen De Nederlandse Henriëtte en de Keniaanse Ruth. Henriëtte wilde graag in Nairobi een bedrijfje starten, waar vrouwen dichtbij huis van waardeloos materiaal mooie interieur producten kunnen maken, zonder dat hiervoor grote investeringen nodig zijn. AfroDutch PaperStone zorgt voor het creëren van beauty out of waste en maakt het daarnaast mogelijk dat vrouwen dichtbij huis aan het werk te zijn zodat ze ook voor hun kleine kinderen kunnen zorgen.

Nu een paar jaren later is Ruth de eigenaar van AfroDutch PaperStone, heeft ze haar baan als schoonmaakster ver achter zich gelaten, geeft ze zelf werk aan een aantal vrouwen en verkoopt ze AfroDutch PaperStone producten (vazen, schalen, lampenkappen en sieraden) in Nairobi via fairs en winkels. In Nederland worden de banners, kaarten en tealightholders verkocht.

AfroDutch PaperStone heeft nog geen eigen webshop in Nederland, maar deze webshops en winkels verkopen de mooie producten.

Now that the nights are getting shorter, it's time to make it cosy at home, and light up the candles. There are all kinds of candle- and tealightholders, but the beautiful cottontealightholders by AfroDutch PaperStone are a must have for in your home.

Afro Dutch Paper Stone is a collaboration between the Dutch Henriëtte and Kenyan Ruth. Henriëtte wanted to start a business in Nairobi, where women can make beautiful home interior products, without requiring large investments. AfroDutch PaperStone is about creating beauty out of waste and also makes it possible for women to be at work close to their homes, so they can care for their small children.

A few years later now, Ruth is the owner of AfroDutch PaperStone. She left her job as a cleaning lady left behind, she employs several women herself and sells them AfroDutch PaperStone products (vases, bowls, lampshades and jewelery) in Nairobi through fairs and shops. In the Netherlands, banners, cards and tealightholders are sold.

AfroDutch PaperStone doesn't have a webshop in the Netherlands, but you buy can these beautiful products are sold in these shops and webshops. 

¡Shops to inspire: Townshipsmile!

Time flies en jullie hebben nog inspiratie en mooie producten van me tegoed die mijn favorieten tijdens de showUP Westergasfabriek waren....

Toen ik de Gashouder binnen liep, viel mijn oog meteen op de mooie ontwerpen van Townshipsmile. Townshipsmile wordt gerund door de enthousiaste Merel Disselkoen. Een aantal jaar geleden was ze in Zuid Afrika om een bouwproject van de Johan Cruyff Foundation en de Ndlovu Care Group in township Elandsdoorn te begeleiden. In de townships ontmoette ze veel mensen die wel de wil en het talent, maar niet de mogelijkheden hadden om hun eigen bedrijf te starten en daarmee een financiële toekomst voor zichzelf en hun gezin op te bouwen. Merel ging regelmatig terug en liet hen mooie ontwerpen maken, die ze meenam naar Nederland om hier te verkopen. En zo werd Townshipsmile geboren!

Alle producten die via Townshipsmile verkocht worden hebben een bijzonder verhaal en zijn in Zuid Afrika gemaakt. Voor de mooie tassen en IPad sleeves zijn Zuid Afrikaanse cementzakken en meelzakken hergebruikt. Ook worden er tassen gemaakt van Braziliaanse koffiezakken. Deze hebben al een hele reis achter de rug als ze in Zuid Afrika aankomen en door er een (reis-)tas van te maken, kunnen ze verder reizen. Daarnaast zijn er veel mooie sieraden.

Ik heb zelf jaren voor een ontwikkelingsorganisatie gewerkt en vind niets leuker dan mooie ontwerpen te kopen die mensen de kans geven een toekomst op te bouwen. Toen ik de IPad sleeve The Owl and the Pussycat zag, was ik meteen helemaal verliefd! Val je ook voor de mooie ontwerpen van Township smile? Time flies and there is a lot of nice design and inspiring shops to share, which were my favourites at the showUP Westergasfabriek.... Let's start with one of my favourites! When I walked into the gasholder, the beautiful designs of Townshipsmile took my attention. Townshipsmile is the company of the inspiring and enthusiastic Merel Disselkoen. A few years ago she went to South Africa to accompany a building project of the Johan Cruyff Foundation and the Ndlovu Care Group in township Elandsdoorn. In the townships, she met many people who have the will and the talent, but not had the opportunities to start their own business and build a financial future for themselves and their families. Merel went back regularly and let them make beautiful designs, which she took back home to sell them here. And so Townshipsmile was born! All products which are sold through Townshipsmile, have a special story and are made in South Africa. To make beautiful bags and IPad sleeves, South African cement and flour bags are recycled There are also bags made of Brazilian coffeebags. These have had a long journey when they arrive in South Africa and by making a (travel-)bag of them, they can travel further. Next to that there is lot of special jewelery. For years I worked for an NGO, and I like it very much to buy products and nice designs that give people the chance to build a future. When I saw the IPad sleeve The Owl and the Pussycat, I was immediately in love! Do you also like the beautiful design of Towshipsmile? ¡Moodboard Monday #4: Trends 2013 – 2014!

Het eerste blog dat ik voor ¡Muy Bien! Schreef, ging over de trends die ik verwachtte in 2013 te gaan zien. Ik dacht dat Optimism (plusjes), Green, Nomads, Upcycling en Involvement een grote rol zouden gaan spelen en dat is ook inderdaad het hele jaar door een thema in mijn blogs geweest.

Daarnaast waren veertjes, dip- dye, catussen en vetplantjes, wit keramiek, marmer, Marokkaans servies, (roze) koper en messing, kelims, grote glazen flessen en veel DIY en industrial terug te zien in mode en interieur.

Voor 2014 verwacht ik de volgende trends:

¡Seventies!: grote glazen flessen, plantenhangers, vetplanten, lange rokken, hippie style en veilingkistjes. We zijn er in 2013 al mee gestart, maar hebben er nog geen genoeg van.

¡Industrial!: zwart, looplamp, koper, messing, beton, glas, gloeilampen ongeverfd, oud school- en kantoor meubilair. Stoer, simpel en mooi.

¡Handmade!: Breien, haken, kleien, maskingtape, koken, inmaken, volkstuin, maar ook duurzaam design. We gaan bewuster om met dat wat we hebben en zelf maken is helemaal hip.

¡Sharing en Swapping!: Instagram, Twitter, ruilen is het nieuwe kopen, samen gebruiken van spullen, aandacht voor elkaar, Blog - / Instaswap en elkaar via lunches of shoppingtours ontmoeten. We delen via social media veel met elkaar; niet alleen foto's en berichtjes maar ook kadootjes. Niet gebruikte kleding en spullen worden geruild.

¡Colorful!: Volgens Pantone wordt Radiant Orchid DE kleur voor 2014! Naast lila gaan we volgens mij ook veel pastels zien en blijven (oranje)geel en groen nog wel even in beeld. Paars en donkerblauw worden volgens mij ook helemaal de kleuren voor 2014!

¡Happy Monday!

The first blog I wrote for ¡Muy Bien! Was about all the trends I expected to see in 2013. Optimism (crosses), Green, Nomads, Upcycling an Involvement were the trends that I expected to see in 2013. It came true but next to that we saw a lot of feathers, dip-dye, cacti and succulents, whit ceramic, marble, Moroccan pottery, (pink) copper and brass, kilims, big vases and bottles of glass, and lots of DIY and industrial in fashion and interior. For 2014 I expect the following trends:

¡Seventies!: Big bottles of glass, plant hangers, succulents, long skirts, bohemian look and crates. We started with them, but we still don't have enough!
¡Industrial!; black, electricity bulbs, copper, brass, concrete, glass, raw and unpainted, old school and office furniture. Raw, simple and beautiful.
¡Handmade!: knitting, crocheting, clay, maskingtape, cooking, preserving, urban gardening but also sustainable design. We are more aware of the things we have and DIY is so trendy.
¡Sharing and Swapping!:Instagram, Twitter, swapping is the new buying, using things together, attention to each-other, Blog-/ Instaswap, meeting IRT through lunches or shopping tours. We share a lot by social media but also send presents. Things we don't need are changed.
¡Colorful!:Pantone choose Radiant Orchid as THE 2014 color. Next to lilac I think we will see a lot of soft colors and are  (orange) yellow and green still trendy. Purple and dark Blue are the 2014 colors to my opinion.

¡Oh Marie's Reizend Kringloopgezelschap!

Oh Marie! is een online magazine, met heel veel eigenzinnige wooninspiratie. Een enorme inspiratiebron voor bloggers.

 

 

Misschien heb je ook al eens items van het Reizende Kringloop Gezelschap op blogs zien verschijnen. Bij de launch party van Oh Marie! magazine kregen alle aanwezigen een feestelijke Piňata met daarin een item van de kringloop. Om dit een rijk en waardevol leven te geven mag dit item gaan reizen om vastgelegd te worden op allerlei leuke inventieve manieren. Het wordt daarna doorgegeven aan een volger die datzelfde doet, enzovoort.

Op twitter zag ik de oproep van Maggie Again, die een nieuwe plek voor het geborduurde vogeltje zocht. Deze heeft al eerder een plekje gehad bij Nikki van Liefgeval. Daarna vloog hij verder naar Saskia van Knoopjes, via Babette van Broesj en Hanneke van StudiohMijn.

En nu ben ik de gelukkige!

Oh Marie! is een online magazine, with a lot of original home inspiration. For Bloggers it is a special source of inspiration. Maybe, you also have heard about The fellowship of travelling thriftshop items. At the launch party of Oh Marie Magazine the guests received a Piňata

with a little gift. The items came from a thriftstore and would embark on a great journey to be photographed while traveling through homes of bloggers and other creatives. Afterwards putting a picture on your blog, it travels on to another blogger, who does the same and so one. At Twitter, I read the request from Maggie Again, who was looking for a new place to stay for this embroidered bird. The bird started its journey at Nikki van Liefgeval. Afterwards it flew to Saskia from Knoopjes, through Babette from Broesj and Hanneke from StudiohMijn.

Now I am the lucky one! It was not difficult to make some pictures, because – as you can see- there are a lot of birds in and around my home.
And now it is time to fly on to another Blogger. If you would like to receive the bird, leave a message on this blog. Maybe this time it will fly across the border, to one of my followers from abroad...

¡Tea Art!

Upcycling is een van mijn favoriete trends. Want wat is het leuk om spullen te hergebruiken en er iets heel nieuws van te maken.
Ik ben ook een een echte theeleut en heel blij met de theewinkels Betjeman & Barton en Kali Tengah, die Den Haag rijk is.

Waar ik echt blij van word is deze Tea Art van Githa Schrijver!

Zij gooit gebruikte theezakjes niet weg, maar maakt er kunst van. Allemaal even mooi en bijzonder. In 2012 heeft ze vele theezakjes onder handen genomen en het resultaat is op haar website te zien.

Upcycling is one of my favorite trends. I like the idea of use things and make something new of them. I am also a real tea addict, and am very glad with tea shops like Betjeman & Barton and Kali Tengah, which stores are in The Hague next to my home.So I was very happy to I discover the Tea Art from Githa Schrijver! She doesn't trow away used tea bags, but transformers them in pieces of art. Every piece is very special! In 2012 she made one every day. You can see them all on her website, but these are my favourites!
