While we are welcoming Spring, Zara Home show’s us their beautiful new Spring / Summer collection: Summer Escape. Beautiful products in warm clay, sand and terra tones, my favourite colour palette! Next to that they show us rustic wood, natural fibres and clay that evoke the desert and its purity. Timeless designs styled in a beautiful dessert home.

I love the warm coloured glasses and ceramics. And I am sure I will buy some of them or the beautiful clay ceramics. But how great would it be to spend some time in this beautiful dessert home, with its wooden doors and simple but stunning furniture. Reading on the the couch with the beautiful embroidered and coloured cushions or dreaming in one of the calm and rustic bedrooms... 

Think I am ready for a new season! 

Terwijl wij de Lente verwelkomen, showt Zara Home ons hun prachtige nieuwe Spring / Summer-collectie: Summer Escape. Mooie producten in warme klei, zand en terra tinten, mijn favoriete kleurenpalet! Naast deze warme kleuren zien we veel verweerd hout, natuurlijke vezels en keramiek die het woestijngevoel oproepen in al zijn puurheid. Deze tijdloze ontwerpen zijn gestyled in een prachtig huis in de woestijn.

De warm gekleurde glazen en keramiek vaas, lamp en kandelaar zijn mijn favorieten. Een paar van die mooie gekleurde glazen gaan zeker hun weg naar mijn huis vinden. Maar hoe geweldig zou het zijn om te logeren in dit prachtige woestijn huis, met de mooie houten deuren en eenvoudig maar prachtig meubilair. Lezen op de bank met de prachtige geborduurde en gekleurde kussens of dromen in een van de rustige en rustieke slaapkamers ... Laat de zon maar komen!

My last holidays I spent in the Balkan, travelling around through Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia. I immediately fell in love with Bosnia. Though you can still see a lot of destroyed buildings of the past war, there are also a lot of beautiful Ottoman influences.

Especially in Sarajevo! There is a real Ottoman bazar with a caravanserai restaurant but also the beautiful Svrzina Kuća: Svro’s house. An oasis of whitewashed walls, cobbled courtyards and partly vine-draped balcony’s, this 18th-century house has been brilliantly restored and appropriately furnished, so you can imagine Sarajevo life in Ottoman times. I really fell in love with the beautiful traditional Bosnian woodcarving, tiled stoves, embroidered cushions and curtains and kelims in weathered colours. We stayed here for more than an hour, and there was nobody around. Therefore we had a very good look at the house and all it’s beautiful details and made lots of pictures.

If you have ever the change to visit Sajarevo (highly recommended) make sure to visit this beautiful place!

Mijn laatste vakantie bracht ik door in de Balkan en reisde rond door Bosnië, Servië, Montenegro en Kroatië. Ik werd meteen verliefd op Bosnië. Hoewel je nog steeds veel verwoeste gebouwen uit de afgelopen oorlog kunt zien, zijn er ook veel prachtige Ottomaanse invloeden.

Vooral in Sarajevo! Er is een echte Ottomaanse bazaar met een karavanserai-restaurant, maar ook het prachtige Svrzina Kuća: Svro's huis. Een oase van witgekalkte muren, geplaveide binnenpleintjes en deels met wijnranken begroeide balkons. Dit 18e-eeuwse huis is op schitterende wijze gerestaureerd en op passende wijze ingericht, zodat je het leven van Sarajevo in Ottomaanse tijden kunt voorstellen. Ik werd echt verliefd op het prachtige traditionele Bosnische houtsnijwerk, betegelde kachels, geborduurde kussens en gordijnen en kelims in verweerde kleuren. We waren hier meer dan een uur en er was niemand in de buurt. Daardoor konden we het huis en al zijn prachtige details uitgebreid bekijken en fotograferen.

Mocht je ooit een tripje naar Sarajevo maken (aanrader) vergeet dan niet deze prachtige plek te bezoeken!

¡A stylish grey AirBnB in Riga!

About a year ago, I got inspired by the beautiful art, design and beautiful architecture of Riga (Latvia). So when my best friend and I decides to have a city trip, Riga was the first choice.

When I make a city trip with friend, I like to stay in an AirBnB, because it feel likes living in the city, instead of being a tourist. How happy when I discovered this beautiful grey apartment in one of the most trendy parts of Riga. The apartment is owned by the very friendly and hospitable Elina.

Formerly the apartment was an office, but interior and styling addict Elina transformed it to a stylish and cosy place to stay in her favourite colour grey The sleeping rooms are very relaxing (even they are at the street level). One of them has a beautiful brick wall and the appartment had beautiful minimalistic furniture We enjoyed to come home here after days of strolling around the city centre. The city centre is about a 20 minutes walk, but there is a trolley bus stop just in front of the apartment. But we liked the district around the apartment even better. Just one block away there is the inspiring Miera Isla, with a great coffee roasters, chocolate factory, pop up & concept stores and some great restaurants and beer brewery in beautiful Industrial buildings.

We just had breakfast at home, and since Latvian food is delicious (and we were luckily that it was Restaurant week) it isn’t any problem that the apartment hasn’t a kitchen.

Ongeveer een jaar geleden werd ik geïnspireerd door door het prachtige design, kunst en mooie gebouwen in Riga (Letland). Dus toen ik besloot om met mij beste vriendin een city trip te maken, was Riga eerste keus. Als ik een city trip maak met vrienden, verblijf ik het liefst in een AirBnB. Het voelt alsof je gewoon in de stad woont in plaats van toerist te zijn. Wat was ik blij toen ik dit mooie grijze appartement in een van de mest trendy wijken van Riga ontdekte. Het appartement is de enorm vriendelijke en gastvrije Elina. Nog geen jaar geleden was het appartement een kantoorpand, maar interieur en styling minnende Elina veranderde het in een stijlvolle en gezellige plek in haar favoriete kleur grijs. De slaapkamers stralen rust en stilte uit (ondanks dat het appartement aan een doorgaande straat ligt). Een an de slaapkamers heeft een prachtige stenen muur en het appartement is minimalistisch gemeubileerd. Heerlijk om hier thuis te komen na een dag sjouwen door de stad. Het oude stadscentrum is ongeveer 20 minuten lopen van het appartement, maar de trolley bus stopt recht voor de deur. Wij vonden de wijk waar het appartement in ligt eigenlijk veel leuker dan de oude stad. Slechts 1 blok verder is de hippe Miera Isla, een straat met een fijne coffee branderij, chocolade museum, pop up en concept stores en een aantal geweldige restaurants en een bierbrouwerij in geweldige industriële gebouwen. Wij ontbeten alleen thuis en genoten van de heerlijke Letse keuken (en het was nog restaurant week ook) dus het was voor ons geen enkel probleem dat het appartement geen keuken heeft. Mocht je een trip naar Riga plannen, kijk dan hier even of het appartement vrij is en mocht je gaan, doe Elina mijn hartelijke groeten!

¡Terrific Treehouse in Tulum!

I always love the work of interior stylist Annabell Kutucu. 

But she increased herself decorating this minimalistic dreamhouse in Tulum. Surrounded by Palmtrees, the house doesn't need to much decoration. In the house a lot of Tzalam, a local wood, has been widely used and contrasts with the polished white cement. Some design and ethnic designed caramics and rugs were added to subscribe its simplicity. 

A real dreamhouse to me!

Ik ben groot fan van het werk van stylist Annabell Kutucu. Maar ze heeft zichzelf echt overtroffen met de inrichting van dit minimalistische droomhuis in Tulum. Omgeven door palmbomen, heeft het huis niet veel decoratie nodig. Er is in het huis veel gebruik gemaakt van de lokale houtsoort Tzalam, een prachtig contract met de wit gestucte muren. Alleen wat design en locale keramiek en tapijten werden toegevoegd waarmee de eenvoud van dit huis geaccentueerd wordt. Een echt droomhuis!
